The primary use of vitamin K1 is treatment of anticoagulant rodenticide toxicity. Vitamin K1 also has been used in animals with liver problems unable to produce necessary blood clotting proteins.
Vitamin K1 is a kind of yellow, viscous, naturally occurring fat soluble vitamin, found in leafy greenvegetables, used by the body to form prothrombin. (A plasma protein that is essential to blood clotting). Vitamin K1 is slowly degraded by atmospheric oxygen, but is fairly rapidly degraded by light. Vitamin K1 is relatively stable to heat, but is decomposed by alkalis.
